I am 28 and Fear I Will Never be Successful

When I was younger, all I wanted to do with my life was write music, go on tour, and make my living doing what I enjoyed most. People I worked with told me, “Why are you working here? You should be out playing your music, not working in this place!”

In my heart I knew they were right. I could write music and play music better than all my musician friends. I was even offered a deal to have my music produced.

But, I made some bad decisions, let the wrong people influence me, and was severely depressed and controlled by suicidal thoughts. So, finally at about age 27, I thought… “I’m too old now. I’ll never make it as a musician.”

At that point I laid down my guitar and in a seven-year period played it less than 10 times.

The lesson learned here is, lack of knowledge kills you…

In my own mind, I was too old at 27 to make my dreams come true. I did not realise that 90% of the bands that I love did not make their mark until their early 30’s. If I had known that, what an inspiration it would have been to me.

You can start right now to make your dreams come true. Every company I have worked for has started small. Selling a single type of product turned into a warehouse of products. A single machine turned into a shop of six machines. One exercise video turned into a huge fitness company.

So, it’s not too late for you. Figure out where you want to be, start small and work your way up. You can do it!

And by the way… most of my friends felt the same way as you when they reached 27.

It’s normal.
